Zelda Twilight Princess Twilight Kakariko Village

5.1 Back in Hyrule Field

After you have finished defeating Diababba and completed the Temple, you’ll get warped back to Faron Woods right outside of Trill’s Shop. Now is a good time to get any free Red Potion or Lantern oil if you need any.

Faron tells you to leave the woods and find the lands protected by the Spirit Eldin, so head west past Coro and through the formerly closed gate which leads to Hyrule Field. Upon entering, you’ll be greeted by two bokoblins. Defeat them, and continue on into the main area where you will be able to get an accurate view of the entire field.

There are a few enemies lurking, which include some Kargaroks that are flying overhead, and are easily defeated with a few sword slashes. There are also some new creatures known as bombskits, however they run away easily and should not be a concern.

Follow the dirt path ahead, follow it uphil and if you look down to the right, you will see a tree with a golden spot at the bottom of its trunk. This is actually a Golden Bug, roll into the tree a few times to get the bug to fly away and then chase after it and when you are close enough, you will be able to press A and capture it. These insects are known as Golden Bugs and there are 24 of them in total, collecting these bugs will enable Link to upgrade his wallet at a later time.

Return to the path you were previously on and continue following it northward. The path is actually split with one end turning to the left and the other going across a bridge. At the split in the road there is a tree, look up to see a floating piece of heart on one of the branches, this piece can be obtained by using the Gale Boomerang. There isn’t much else to see at this portion of Hyrule Field so keep progressing to the far west portion of this area.

As you come close, a man will yell out, “HEEY”, it is the game’s postman who also resembles the postman from previous Zelda titles. He will warn you that a black wall is head and blocking the way. He introduces himself and hands you a letter which is simply an introductory letter.

Continue heading towards the black wall. One thing that should be noted about Hyrule Field is that the time of day changes depending on how long Link has been in the field, if you linger in the field past nighttime, a new enemy will appear which is a skeletal dog creature, that can be defeated with a few sword slashes.

Continue traveling southward and follow the path as it leads to a wall of Twilight. Midna will then warn you that if you step into the twilight you will turn into a wolf, walk forward and allow Midna to pull you into the Twilight.

5.2 Twilight Kakariko Gorge

Now that you are back in the Twilight Link will be returned to his wolf form. Head west from where you are and you will find the wooden sword that Link gave Talo earlier. The sword has the scent of the kids so sniff it and use your wolf senses to see where the kids have been.

You should not be able to follow the scent as long as you have keep your wolf senses activated. As you progress you will eventually come across more Shadow Beasts. Defeat them, make sure not to leave one alive, and they will disappear.
After doing so you will notice that a bridge is missing a piece, preventing Link from progressing.

At this point Midna will explain that when you defeat Shadow Beasts a portal will be left behind. While in Wolf Link form you will be able to use these portals to warp location to location. You will then be prompted to warp back to the Faron Woods to find the missing bridge piece.

Warp to the North Faron Woods and to your right is the bridge piece. Approach the bridge and talk to Midna. Listen to what she says and warp back to the Kakariko Gorge with the bridge piece.

Now that you are back at the bridge with the piece in place. Turn your wolf senses back on and continue to follow the kid’s scent until you reach a gate with 2 bokoblins on the other side. Midna will advise you to an area where you can dig under the gate. Defeat the 2 Bokoblins and then enter Kakariko Village.

5.3 Sixteen Tears of Light

A cutscene shows that you have three more shadow beasts to battle. Once you’ve killed them, another portal is opened and the Light Spirit Eldin awakens and beckons you to the pool. Eldin essentially repeats what the previous Light Spirit and the following Light Spirit have said/will say. Obtain the Vessel of Light and once again use it to collect the tears of light to return the world to normal. Look at your map to see where the shadow insects are located.

Go into scent mode and follow the path of the Youth’s Scent. Go toward the window in order to listen briefly to what is happening inside. If you walk around to the north side of the building you can use Midna to jump onto the roof. If you stand in the center of the roof it will cave in and wolf Link will fall through the ceiling. Use sense mode to watch a cutscene to see who these people are. You’ll hear a short story about the terrors of the Twilight beasts, and then Rendado will explain that the cellar can only be open when all of the candles have been lit. When the scene ends, look for the stick nearby and pick it up. Take it toward the fire that Barnes the bombmaker lit and once it is ignited, run around the stairs in the house in a circle to light all of the candles thus opening the cellar.
Drop down into the cellar beside the newly moved statue and you’ll find some shadow insects to defeat. Recover the first three tears of light and head to the opposite side of the cellar. Hop up the wooden platforms until you pop out in a graveyard. On the map there is a shadow insect, head toward its location and dig it up to reveal the insect. It will start to flee, but just run at him until you kill him and get the fourth tear of light. Return to Kakariko Village via the eastern side of the graveyard.

Begin toward the main portion of town and on the right side there will be a sign that says “Dead End Ahead.” Ignore it and go to the left of the path where the building is with the small hole is. Defeat the enemy and crawl through the hole. Jump up from the pit and you’ll be behind a counter of a store. Climb the shelves all the way up toward where the insect is marked and kill it to get the fifth tear. Leave the room by exiting through the same door.

Go through the door to the left and encounter two shadow bokoblins. Kill them and you can open a chest in the southwest corner to get some rupees. Head up the steps to kill another monster then go into the northern room and turn on sense mode. Kill the shadow insect on the wall in order to obtain the seven tear. Go back to the first room where you entered the hotel, then climb to the top and exit.

Jump off the hotel balcony and cross to the other side of the buildings. At the southern side there is a small shack you can climb onto. Do so, then jump from building to building until you reach the one with the patched up roof. As before, stand on the patching and you’ll plop down into the building.

This shadow insect is hiding beneath a crate, so you’ll have to push the crate out of the way to get to it. Defeat it and you’ll get the eighth tear of light and be halfway done. Whew. Go to the opposite side of the room from the bed and Midna will help you jump up and exit through the roof. Jump off of the building and go north to the closed shop, Barnes Bomb shop. Just north of the shop there is another shack of sorts that you can climb onto. You’ll see a glass window directly across from it that you can jump through. Once inside, go up the stairs and head in the direction the shadow insect is marked at. You’ll have to knock the insect off of the wall behind the shelf by dashing into the wall. Attack the insect for the ninth tear of light. Climb up the shelf and exit through the window above.

Wolf Link is now standing on top of Barnes Bomb shop. Go up the steps and turn to the left to see an insect moving around and watch it crawl into the small building near the cliff. Follow the insect by crawling through the small hole on the ground. This insect is hiding in the fire place, so what should you do? Smoke it out! Grab the stick and catch it on fire via the other fire in the building, then light the fireplace. This stupid bug will ignite the entire building and Midna gets the heck out of there, as should you! Immediately crawl out of the hole that you came in from and watch as the building collapses. In the rubble, three more tears of light are waiting for you to walk on over and obtain them.

Walk toward the far northwest corner of the village and head up several paths to get to the highest building in town. Use your senses to dig and get into the building and break the barrels to get the insect to come out. Defeat it for the thirteenth tear of light. Almost done! Dig your way back out of the house and you’ll see on your map that none of the remaining three tears of light are in Kakariko Village. Jump down to the ground and head northward. Exit the village on the path where the sign indicates will take you to the ominous Death Mountain.

On the left side, you’ll see a bunch of rocks. Midna will help you jump up them to get to the first part of the mountain where a Goron guard is standing. Listen to him if you’d like. Keep going north and kill the beasts in your path. You’ll get to another wall that has some crates lining it, which will allow you to hop up and keep going northward. Once you reach the geysers that shoot out steam, be careful not to bump into them or your health will be depleted. In sense mode, you can see one shadow insect as he burrows underground. Dig it up and defeat it for the fourteenth tear of light.

On the cliff by where you got this insect, there is a howling stone. Walk over it and click to listen. Press A and howl to song in the same manner. This is pretty simple once you figure out the controls. Pressing A will keep the howl on the middle note, so hold the stick up for the high notes, continue pressing A and release the stick to go back to middle, then push downward to go down. The song you’ll howl is the Song of Healing from Majora’s Mask. The wolf bobs his head around in an adorable fashion while howling it joyously. The other wolf tells you to take your sword and find him by following the location he puts on your map. You can do this once you are back in Link’s human form.
Keep going north along the path until you reach Death Mountain. There are four shadow beings below, one of which is hanging out on the other side of an invisible gate. I recommend killing him first so you don’t have to try and get him next to one and kill them simultaneously. Defeat them all to create a new warp portal. Now walk over to the gate toward the west and use your senses to find the shadow insect. Ram into the gate and it will start flying. Chase after and kill it to get the fifteenth tear of light.

Next to the gate you will see a platform you can stand on. Midna will help you jump up from there. Be careful around the geysers and wait for the steam to subside before walking or they will knock you off of the ledge. At the end of the path you’ll see a small platform that Link can climb onto. Get to the point high enough where Midna will help you jump. There will be another Goron. Jump off the platform to get to a hot spring. There are a bunch of beasts running around. Kill them and use your senses to capture the final tear of light by defeating the last insect. Finally! You’ll automatically be teleported back to the pool in Kakariko Village.

Eldin the Spirit of Light returns the village, and Link, back to normal. Eldin mentions that in order to get the second fused shadow, Link must conquer the evil that lays in the region of the Gorons. Time for a cutscene.

5.4 Reuniting with Epona

The kids run toward Link and Renado introduces himself and talks about the village and the change in their relationship with the Goron tribe. Renado asks Link to return to Ordon Village and to leave them with their troubles, which of course you should ignore. Return to the road leading to Death Mountain and climb up the wall. The Goron will start rolling at you and you can use the A button to try and grab him, but Link just isn’t strong enough to stop him. Return to Kakariko Village to look for some clues.

Renado tracks you down when you return and tells you that Gorons only listen to strength and that no ordinary person could challenge them. Renado shares that he knows the mayor of Ordon, Bo, may be able to help Link. He says that he will protect the children until there is a safe way to transport them back to the village.

As you walk into town there will be a short cutscene where the glorious Epona runs wildly into town with two bulbins chasing her. Epona loses them and Link jumps on. You’ll have to seize her in order to calm her down. Press the left and right stick as they appear on the screen and then click A in order to fully seize her. Now that you have reunited with your loyal mare, ride her back to Ordon Village.

Now that you have Epona, you are able to jump the gate and continue into the portion of Hyrule Field that is in the Eldin Province. It is also called the Kakariko Gorge. As you ride forth, the postman will stop you and give you a letter from Ooccoo, the weird bird from the Forest Temple.

In this area there are two more golden bugs to be found, however, time is locked in as daytime since you’re on a specific mission, so it may be difficult to find the bugs at this time. You can return later in the game to find them at night if you can’t see them. In order to find the first bug, dismount right before the bridge. The male pill bug is at the edge where the grass and bridge meet and you can just walk up and catch it. The female pill bug is more challenging to find. She is located toward the southwestern portion of the Kakariko Gorge. There is a ton of tall grass, three trees, and flowers. The bug is in the triangle of trees under some grass you must cut down. Press A to capture her.

Another heart piece has popped up in this area as well as the bugs. Ride to the northeastern corner of the gorge and in the middle of the gorge you will see two huge pillars made of rock. There is a heart piece on top of the larger one that you can obtain with your Gale Boomerang. If you have gotten all of the available pieces up to this point, you should now have five thus giving you more health.

Finally, ride back to Faron Province to the east. Proceed south through Faron Woods and return to the Ordona Province. Cross the long bridge and ride to the spring to encounter the golden wolf you unlocked at the howling stone on Death Mountain. He’ll take you to the cloudy area where you will learn your new skill after proving you mastered the final blow. Once you learn the shield attack you will return to Ordon Spring.
