Goron Mines Walkthrough

7.1 Goron Mines

As you gain control of Link once more, simply walk forward along the clearly defined path on the floor. You should see some platforms which you will need to jump over to. As you try to proceed to the different platforms, a spout of lava will spring up in your face. Wait for the lava to reside, and then continue jumping across. You will eventually come to a platform with a cage-like structure blocking your path forward. Smack the wooden boards with your sword to create a path through.

As you continue you should find another flow of lava right after the next set of wooden boards. You should also see a tile switch on the floor as you approach the fire. You will not be able to activate this switch unless you are wearing the Iron Boots. Equip them and stand on the switch; causing the fire to clear and your path to be open once more.

Once again, you will find yourself with a fire-blocked path and another tile switch. Things will not be so easy this time, however. Wear your Iron Boots to activate this switch. Next you must run past the cleared fire and turn so you can cross the chasm to a hanging platform outside of a cage. Another set of fire covers this path so you must act quickly to get through this entire process before the switch resets.

Now that you are through, you must watch out for a monster that is hiding in the lava. It will shoot flames at Link. Thankfully, your shield can deflect the fireballs right back into its face.  Defeat this monster and then jump across several platforms until you reach a staircase. Climb it and run forward to find a treasure chest. Inside are some Rupees.

Head back to where you climbed the ladder. You must now jump to a platform near the middle of the room and then head to the right side of the room. If you try to go north you will see that fire is once again blocking your path forward. Kill the fire slugs along this path and then proceed down south. You should see another tiled switch.  Press the switch and then quickly take off the Iron Boots to run to this northern path which is now free. Head around the corner and take the path down to the lower platform.

You must now jump to the lower area below and kill several fire slugs. You will notice a gate in your way with a strange looking platform to its right. Climb back onto the platform you were just on and then jump over to this strange one. Equip your Iron Boots which will cause the platform to lower. The gate will now open.

7.2 First Goron Elder

A short cinematic will now play. Once it is finished, walk forward until you reach a split in the road, one heading west and the other heading east. Take the western path until you reach a collection of bokoblins. Kill them and open the nearby chest to obtain a small key.

Head back to the split in the path, and head down the eastern route. You will see two spinning platforms impeding your way forward. Wait for the platforms to flatten out and then jump across the path. You will come to a locked door. Use your small key to move through into the next area. As you continue forward, you will come across a dodongo. Watch out for this monster’s fire attacks! Kill the dodongo by running behind to slash at its tail.
You will now see a series of small platforms situated within the lava. Hop from one to the other, taking care to watch out for any lava that will shoot into the sky. Another dodongo will be found on a platform to the northwestern side of the chamber. Kill it and then look to the east side of the room. You will be able to see a large block from here. We will need to use this block in a moment, but for now simply hop over to the northeastern corner of the room.
Kill the nearby dodongo and head towards the nearby chain. Grab the chain and pull on it until you cannot backup anymore. This chain is actually moving the block that we saw a minute ago. Once you have pulled the chain back, quickly go back to the other platform and jump across to get to where the platform was just positioned. Run through the path before the block recedes and again blocks your way. Once making it through, head out the door.
You should soon notice some turquoise colored material sticking to the walls and ceiling. This material is magnetic, meaning you can use your Iron Boots to walk on the walls! Jump down into the water and then use your boots to sink under the surface and to the bottom You will need to walk to the hole which will cause you to resurface on the other side. Keep heading forward and you will find another tile switch under the water. Make sure to re-equip your Iron Boots to sink to the bottom and to activate the switch. This switch will activate the magnetic charge of your boots, pulling him onto the ceiling. With your boots now magnetized, you can you walk around the ceiling to reach a higher level. Go through the door.
The first Goron elder can be found within this chamber. Talk to the elder, Gor Amoto, and he will give you the first key shard. You must find two other shards from the other elders to repair the Big Key. Open the nearby treasure chest, behind the elder, to get the dungeon’s map. There is one final chest hidden in the corner of the room. Inside is a red rupee.
With both chests emptied, climb up the ladder behind the Goron elder. Proceed around to the other side of the room. You should notice that one of the nearby pots shaking on the floor. Break the pot to find an Ooccoo. Now exit this room to find yourself on the dungeon’s top level.

7.3 Second Goron Elder

You will notice that you are back in the prior chamber, albeit higher now. Use your Iron Boots to stick to the magnetic walls to your side. Walk along this wall and avoid the fire slugs as you proceed to reach the other side of the room. Head through the door.

As you walk forward you will see another switch. Use your Iron Boots and step onto the switch; creating another magnetic field that will send Link flying onto the ceiling. Walk towards the northwestern corner of the chamber and unequip your boots. You will land near a treasure chest with a piece of heart inside. Put your boots back on and walk long the magnetic wall to get back onto the room’s ceiling. Kill the fire slugs along your way to the southeastern corner. Once there, turn and head west to get to the door on the upper level. You will find yourself on a higher level of the central room upon going through this door.

Head to the middle of this room and kill all the nearby bokoblins and keese if you can. Use your Iron Boots to stand on the tile switch which will activate a crane with a magnetic charge. Head to the left side of the rom and wait for the magnetic crane to swing that direction. When it does, equip your boots to attach to the crane. Ride it to the north side of the room and unequip your boots to fall to the ground.

Proceed around the caged platform and kill any monsters that you encounter. Once again, use your Iron Boots to activate another tile switch and another magnetic crane. Hold still until the crane comes over you, pulling you up once more. Ride it further north and release. Kill the nearby enemies and head through the door.

This room will have four tektites skating around the water. Kill them and then jump into the water. Swim to the other side of the room and sink to the bottom with your Iron Boots. Open up the chest to get a small key.

Float back to the surface and then swim to the southeastern side of the room towards the cage. Sink to the bottom of the water and push the nearby block into the cage. Resurface while within the cage to climb up onto the ground.

Climb higher up and use your Iron Boots on yet another tile switch. Keep the boots on and walk to the newly created magnetic field, bringing Link flying to the ceiling. Walk along the path until you reach the end. Unequip your boots to find yourself on the upper portion of the chamber.

Press down the tiled switch to the west with your Iron Boots. Another magnetic field will come out from the side. Keep your boots equipped and then walk off the platform into the field. Doing so will draw Link to the wall on the other side. Walk up from this side and head onward until you reach the end of the turquoise material. Release yourself to reach a platform with a chest. Open it to get some rupees.

The same platform is also home to a blue colored diamond switch. Slash the switch and it will turn yellow. A timer will initiate and the door to the north will open. You must quickly run through the door before the timer ends.

In this room are two bokoblins. Kill them and then climb the magnetic wall to the right side of the chamber. Head along the wall and release the boots to find another heart piece inside of a chest.

Drop back down onto the floor and head to the same magnetic wall. This time, head to the northeast . Release your boots to land onto a platform. Slash the nearby handle with ropes attached. Doing so will cause a large cube to fall. Drop back down and you will now see two statues in the middle of the room. These robotic-like statues are called Beamos. We wary of their laser beam attacks, and run past them for the time. Head north and use your small key on the door to head through.

Once again, you will find yourself in an outside area. This area is absolutely littered with bokoblin archers. Run north through the area and take care to hide behind any cover that you find. As long as you keep moving and hide, you should be able to get through the area without taking damage. You can also use your Slingshot to take a few of the archers out. When you reach a split in the path, head to the right.

You will see another beamos statue. Just ignore him and head to the treasure chest in the southwest corner. Open the chest to get a small key. Proceed to the far west area of this chamber to open the locked door.

Once through, wait for the spinning platform ahead of you to calm down and then jump past it. You will see another large spinning platform to your right. Walk close to it and notice the magnetic areas on the platform. One side has 1 magnetic field and the other has three. Wait until the side with three fields is facing upwards. Then jump onto the platform and equip your Iron Boots onto the first area. You will need to let the platform do a full spin around and proceed from one magnetic area to the next. Repeat this process until you can reach the other side. Head through the door.

You are now in the chamber with Gor Ebizo, the second Goron elder. He will give you the second key shard and information about a new weapon. Open the treasure chest in this room to get some rupees. Climb the ladder and exit the room.

7.4 The Hero’s Bow

Use your Iron Boots to walk along the wall to get to the door on the other side of the room. You can walk to western wall to reach a platform with more rupees. After doing so, proceed to the other side and open the door to reach the Goron Mines’ mini-boss Dangoro.

The door to this chamber will proceed to lock behind you. With nowhere else to go, jump over to the large magnetic platform. You will run into Dangoro, a rather upset looking Goron. He will slam down onto the platform, causing it to fall down into the lower lava surrounded area.

This boss fight is actually fairly easy. I would suggest that you stand near the middle of the magnetic platform. Dangoro’s weak spot is his under belly. However, you cannot reach his stomach until Dangoro is preparing an attack. Your best bet is to stand very close to him. Wait until he starts to wind his arm back for an attack, and then slash at his stomach. Jump attacks will be more powerful, but regular attacks will also work. Regular sword attacks are weaker, and you may have to back up after a couple of swings to avoid his powerful punch. His punches are actually strong enough to go right through your shield!
After knocking Dangoro to the ground, he will curl up into a defensive position and start rolling at Link. Simple equip your Iron Boots and grab him as he rolls towards you. If you are standing close enough to the edge, you will be able to throw Dangoro off the platform and into the lava. After doing this several times, he will begin to swing at you with both of his hands. Simply avoid his attacks and continue repeating this process. Three tosses into the lava will be enough to defeat him.

Upon defeat, Dangoro calms down and offers you the legendary weapon. The platform will rise back up and the doors will unlock. Head through the new path and open the chest to obtain the Hero’s Bow. This new item allows Link to hold up to 30 arrows and basically replaces the Slingshot.

7.5 Third Goron Elder and the Big Key

With your newly acquired bow and arrow set, face towards the southern half of the room and use an arrow to cut the rope holding the block up. Breaking the rope will create a new path forward.

This next room will have another beamos standing in your path. Now that you have a bow and arrow you can easily dispatch these foes. Aim your arrow at the beamos’ red dot and let it fly when it rotates around. Successfully hitting the red dot will deactivate the beamos into a lifeless statue.

Six more beamos in this room will now activate. While not totally necessary, you should take out each of them and collect all the prizes behind the statues. You will find the compass behind the beamos to the right and a door to behind the one to the left. Go ahead and head through the door.

The last Goron elder will be found in this door. He will give you the third and final key shard, completing your Big Key. Open the treasure chest to obtain 50 rupees. With everything collected, go ahead and exit the room.

7.6 Finding the Boss Chamber

You will once again be in the room with all of the deactivated beamos statues. Pull back the beamos to the south that is blocking the door. Head through the door and defeat the fire keese that will fly by you. You will come up to a sketchy looking fence. Simply roll into it to knock down this barrier. Jump over the next hurdle and kill the three fire slugs. You will come to a platform with two dodongos. Your best bet is to kill them from afar with your bow and arrows. Once taking them out, jump over to the platform they were on.

You should now look up towards the ceiling to notice a large group of fire slugs hanging above thenext platforms. If you try to jump across to the next area, they will fall down and knock you into the lava. Instead, shoot them with your arrows so you can safely proceed. You must again do this for the next platform, as more fire slugs are waiting to kill you. Work your way across the chasm until you reach safety and a locked door.

Look up once more, and you will see a magnetic strip with another dodongo. Defeat him with your arrows and then head to the southeastern part of the room. Use your Iron Boots to step on a tile switch, sending you flying to the ceiling. Walk directly over the locked door, and you will be able to see a diamond switch in the distance. Shoot it with an arrow and the door will unlock. Take your boots off and proceed through the door.

Once through the door, turn to the east and open the chest. A purple rupee is inside. Now head north and use your arrows to shoot the ropes holding a platform in the air. Walk across to the other side and use your boots to stand on the switch. You will be pulled up to another crane. Ride it until you are in the northern part of the room. You can now head through the door.

You will now see a new enemy known as a Toadpolis. This monster can shoot rocks at you. Per usual, simply deflect their attacks back with your shield. Take them out and then jump over to the other side of the room. Use your bow and arrow to shoot the diamond switch that is positioned on a higher ledge. Doing so will open a gate that you can head through. Simply run past the bokoblins and beamos and head north.

You will now be back outside and will see that more bokoblins have gathered. Now that you have a bow and arrow set, you can keep your distance and shoot the archers from afar. With the compass now in-hand, you will also notice a treasure chest has appeared in this room. Head towards it and you will come to a small patch of water. Put on your Iron Boots and sink to the bottom. You will need to proceed through this narrow path and cut your way through any boards in your way. Open the chest to get a purple rupee. Head back to the surface and jump onto the platforms so you can climb higher.

Head back into the area where the beamos was earlier. Hit it with an arrow to deactivate the statue and then pull it away to open the path forward. Climb up to the higher area and kill a few more bokoblin archers as you head west. Use your Iron Boots and stand on the switch to once again activate a magnetic crane. Jump down into the area where the crane is located, and put your boots back on, attacking yourself to its magnetic field. Ride the crane to the northeast, but do not take your boots off yet. Instead, aim your bow at the ropes to create a new platform that Link can land on. Now you can take your boots off. Head east to go through the door.

Take out the bokoblins and the archers in this room. On the southern part of the room is a rope that needs to be shot with an arrow. A platform will drop from above, and a ton of bokoblins will swarm you. Take them out and proceed to the boss chamber. Use your Big Key and continue into the lair.

7.7 Twilit Igniter: Fyrus

The red eye on Fyrys’ head is naturally his weak spot. Due to the size of this boss, Link is not abel to z-target onto his head. Instead, keep your distance and manually aim an arrow at his weakspot. If you hit him, Fyrus will become momentarily stunned. This is your chance to hit him. Run close to Fyrus and equip your Iron Boots. Then you must grab the chains at his feet. Pull back as far as you can until Fyrus trips and falls to the floor. You should now take off your boots and slash at his head until Fyrus gets back to his feet.

You must simply avoid Fyrus’ physical attacks as you repeat this process three times. Fyrus will occasionally swing his shackles at you and he is able to breathe a large spout of fire in your direction. However, none of his attacks deal any significant damage. Just knock him down three times and you can easily finish off this boss.

Upon his defeat, Link will obtain the second Fused Shadow and another heart container. Pick up the container and talk to Midna who will teleport you out of the Goron Mines. Save the game when prompted.
