Twilight Princess Death Mountain Walkthrough

6.1 Iron Boots

Back in your home town, you should talk to the various people about the kids being safe. After you have spoken to everybody you should head to the Southern part of the village and talk with Mayor Bo who is outside of his house. He will inquire into your outfit and then invite you into his home. Inside, he discusses Ilia a bit and then suggests that you investigate the Gorons on Death Mountain. Mayor Bo then trains Link in sumo wrestling to help him defeat the Gorons.

Link and Mayor Bo engage in a sumo wrestling match in a tutorial like segment. Link can perform three moves while wrestling. Thrusting the Wiimote forward will cause Link to jab. Pressing A will cause Link to grab his opponent, and pressing A repeatedly will push his opponents backwards. Lastly you can press left or right to sidestep.

The first match against Mayor Bo is very easy. After defeating him once, the two will engage once again and Bo will be much more challenging. Just use the skills learned in the training round to defeat the mayor. After he is defeated, Mayor Bo will reveal his ultimate secret for defeating the Gorons, the Iron Boots. The Iron Boots not only makes Link extremely heavy and slow, but they are also magnetic and will stick to special magnetized spots.

Now that you have the Iron Boots you should return to Epona and head South to the Ordon Ranch. In the ranch you should talk to Fadom while mounted, and he will ask you to herd the goats for him again. If you manage to herd all 20 goats in less than 3 minutes then he will reward you with a piece of heart.

With the piece of heart collected there is nothing more to do in Ordon. Go ahead and exit the village and return to Kakariko.

6.2 King Bulblin Battle

Arriving back in Kakariko Village will prompt a cut-scene in which King Bulblin returns for another round against Link. In the chaos that ensues, Collin is taken by King Bulblin and it is left to Link to rescue him. Once the scene is over, you will regain control of Link. On Epona still, head north and jump the fence to exit the village for a fight against King Bulblin.

The boss battle against King Bulblin is fairly straightforward. At the start of the fight he will blow on his horn to summon more enemies to engage you. There will be 2 Bulblins per boar that arrives. Defeating them is not necessary, but it will make the fight a lot easier. Simply slashing at them with your sword will do the job and allow you to catch up with King Bulblin much easier.

Use Epona’s energy dashes to catch up with the king, and when you get close to him use your sword to chip away at his armor. Repeat this process until the king is weakened and stumbles to the Bridge of Eldin.

Follow him onto the bridge to compete in a jousting event. This is the final part of the fight and it can be a bit tricky if you are not good with your timing. I find it best to charge at him while holding down to charge a spin attack. When you get close, quickly shift to the left or right of him, and unleash your spin attack. After taking a few hits, King Bulbin will fall off the bridge and Collin will be saved.

With the village again restored to peace, Link can explore a bit.

6.3 Explore Kakariko

You should notice that the first building on your right has been renovated and is now the Malo Mart. This mart is ran by a little kid which is a bit strange, but is essential to your quest. If you have 200 Rupees saved up you should buy the Hylian Shield from the kid. This is the strongest shield in the game. Equip the shield and exit the store.

There are still a few things left to gather in the village before we head up Death Mountain. Head to the west of Renado’s house towards the Graveyard. In the graveyard is a Golden Bug. This is the male ant. Capture it and head back to Kakariko. We are now going to find the female ant. On the left side of the village is a cluster of buildings. Two of the buildings are boarded up and the other one can be entered. Do so and you will see the female ant in the middle of the house. Capture it and exit.

6.4 Climbing Death Mountain

Now that we have collected everything there is to collect, we can head north towards Death Mountain. Climb up the fence and when you reach the top, equip your Iron Boots. As you walk forward the Goron will try to keep you from proceeding. When he rolls towards you, press A to grab him and throw him off the hill.

Take your boots off and proceed up the mountain. As you work your way up, there will be several more Gorons that will roll at you. Every time a Goron approaches, just equip your Iron Boots and toss them aside like before. You will eventually find yourself in a place with a bunch of hot steam. Several Bulbin archers will begin to shoot at Link. To the right of this area is a piece of grass. Blow on it to call a hawk over to you. Now aim the hawk at the archers to knock them down. You can also use your slingshot. Defeat them and keep heading north.

Once you reach the top of the mountain, the home of the Gorons, you will see two Gorons talking. We will have to deal with them soon. For now, drop down and fight off the other nearby Gorons. Also be sure to watch out for the debris that is falling from the erupting mountain. Out of nowhere a large rock falls into the middle of the area. Midna will tell you to use the Gorons as a springboard to reach higher levels.

Slash at the Gorons to make them curl up into a ball. Once they have done so, climb up onto them to be launched upwards to the higher platforms. Head towards the southeast and repeat the process with another Goron. Repeat this once again to get to an even higher level. You should now be 4 levels up. On this level are some steam geysers which will push you back if you try to proceed through them. However, equipping your Iron Boots will enable you to walk through them. Head clockwise up the mountain and through the geysers until you reach another Goron. Launch yourself up off of him to reach another Goron. Do the same to reach the top of the mountain.

Enter the door and all of the Gorons in the room will try to fight you. Thankfully the Goron leader, Gor Coron, intervenes and tells them to stop. He recognizes your incredible feat of making it up the mountain, but will not let you enter the Goron Mines until you can beat him in a sumo match. The match will start and Link will lose quite quickly. So you must now equip your boots and challenge him again. Use the strategies from earlier to defeat Gor Coron.

After defeating him, Gor Coron will allow Link to proceed into the Goron Mines. Enter the passage to find yourself inside of the game’es second dungeon.
