Update 5/20/2014: Confirmed As Fake!

An alleged leaked document from this year’s E3 plans indicates that Nintendo will not only be revealing the next Zelda title for the Wii U, but it will also be playable and is called The Legend of Zelda: Shard of Nightmare.

zelda shard of nightmare

This document has yet to be confirmed ,and Nintendo is staying silent on the matter. It should be noted that there are several things on this list that makes one question its validity.

For instance, Mario Kart 8 is launching before E3, and the conference traditionally is a highlight for unreleased titles. The fact that this game is on the list throws the validity of the entire document into question.

Do not forget to follow us at E3 for confirmation. We will be there and updating the site with live news.

  • With a title like that, I can’t help but think this is going to be Twilight Princess related. Fingers crossed!

    • Carbon Hydra

I think it will be like TP and MM mixed.

  • Noah Glaser

    Sounds fake to me!

  • Sentsuizan_93

    Another note: X = Xenogears: Origins!? O_o

  • Mario Kart 8 will be only a few days old at that point, so I’m not so sure I would discount the list strictly for that reason. As reasons go, it’s paper-thin. Maybe find a better “for example” to cite? I have my reservations about the list, certainly, but it does seem like every year, companies choose to highlight a game that has only just released.

While I’m not saying this rumor is true, Nintendo is known for occassionally showing a just released title at E3. They mentioned and even demoed Animal Crossing New Leaf last year at E3 despite the fact that it had released the week prior. They would likely use Mario Kart 8 as a way to say that Wii U sales are up.

  • gimmegimmekevin

What’s the source of this btw?

    • Noah Glaser

Trying to track that down. We got it emailed to us. I’ve seen on neogaf and 4chan so far. We are really trying to see where it originated, but either way I am very confident this is fake

  • Um, ZI is the source for this…

  • Godlus

Why wouldn’t they have Mario Kart at E3? It’s the only game launching this summer lol

    • Sdudyoy

It’s launching this month, so I don’t see the point of having it be a playable demo, and considering the fact that Mario kart 8 is having Gamestop demo across the US from May 17-18, it seems odd that they would make MK8 playable at E3.

      • its launching right at the tail end of the month. it will only have been out for 2 weeks before e3. it will push people to go out and buy mk 8 bundles. #bestforbusiness

      • not ALL GAmestops are doing this. of the 7 around the area where I live, only 3 are involved. and they are quite far away from me.

      • Godlus

The point is to get it into as many hands as possible. Why would Nintendo not advertise their flagship title at the biggest gaming convention in the world?

        • Sdudyoy

True, I guess they could, but I still doubt it.

  • Noah Glaser

Hey Nate, can you confirm or find the actual source to this? I have been trying to find out. On your forums the guy who started that thread states, “My friend got it from another forum, and the guy who posted it there didn’t mention any source, so I got nothing.”

    • Actually I can. The earliest I found it predates that tweet you found. Let me do a bit more digging. I mean, it’s likely fake anyways, but good to know even if it is, where it came from.

      • Noah Glaser

I ended up finding a bunch of foreign forums with the info posted up to a day prior. But yea, totally fake.

  • Noah Glaser

Can you get the link to that then? Would be great to cite the first original source of it. I got the image emailed to me a couple of hours ago and am curious as to where it originated.

There is zero reason for a document like this to exist. None of the Big 3 are required to divulge information about what they are showing to E3 coordinators, especially for the press conferences that are held off-site.

Also, Nintendo doesn’t have the rights to the Xenogears franchise.

100% fake, just like every other Nintendo rumor ever. That ship is locked tight.

    • Noah Glaser

It just doesn’t add up. There is nothing to suggest this is true I do not understand why all of the big 3 companies would have to submit or even have a document like this

  • Sdudyoy

There isn’t a doubt in my mind that this is fake, although I do wish it was true.

  • rafael

what gives away is that shard of nightmare is just a horrible title.

    • Noah Glaser

It definitely sounds nothing like a zelda title

    • I think we all thought the same thing about Twilight Princess a decade ago.

      And the Nintendo “Wii.”

      • rafael

in my case, i never thought twilight princess was a bad title. I just think shard of nightmare sounds fan made :)

  • Gold Tri

Fake, Nintendo says they will have a lot of new games at e3, and the only “new” game on that list is Zelda.

  • Elem187

If this document was real, Nintendo would win E3 easily.

But why would all of this information from the three platform holders all be on the same sheet.

  • Luis R Rodriguez

Woa! Castlevania symphony of the night 2? Must be fake.

  • wampdog29

I don’t see how Mario Kart 8 and Watchdogs being on the list makes this harder to believe???? Nintendo ALWAYS likes showing off recent releases to allow the public to play. Most companies do this actually. The fact that both games release a week or 2 before E3 just makes it that much more believable.

  • Schwartz Ichenbachen

At first glance, this seems like it could be a legitimate document. However, I believe that the final name of Hyrule Warriors will be announced at E3, and if that is the case, being that “Hyrule Warriors” is written on the document, the entire list is fake.
