Legend of Zelda E3 Predictions

But Nintendo said that they won’t have anything at E3 regarding Zelda!

Right. They’re going to turn away the possibility on one of the biggest stages to show off such a fan favorite franchise?? Not likely. They might not have much regarding the Wii U title, but I expect some other Zelda news to come at E3 2015.

Now – recapping last year:

I don’t like to brag or boast, but a year ago I made some pretty stellar wishes that have come pretty close to being true.

Last year for E3, I was hoping to see Nintendo reveal not only the New Zelda Wii U (which they did), but I was also aiming to see Majora’s Mask 3D get announced. The latter was only a few months off.

Then I was hoping for a Star Fox U announcement. Well, that’s true and supposedly due out this year!

But then everyone scoffed and laughed. I wanted to see a new/updated take on Mario Paint. Well, we’re getting Mario Maker, so suck on that jerks that thought it was a stupid idea! Is it the same as Mario Paint? No, not exactly, but there are too many similarities to say it doesn’t come from the Mario Paint family.

The two misses I had were regarding World of Warcraft’s Blizzard Entertainment putting Hearthstone on the Wii U and 3DS as well as a new hardware announcement – though to be fair, the New 3DS did come out just this year in the states.

2015 has a lot of new promise for Nintendo and here’s where I’m starting now.

#1 – The Legend of Zelda for the Wii U will have a subtitle given.

Though I would love to be able to have a playable demo at my disposal, It’s just not in the cards apparently. But, I am pretty sure that given the popularity behind the franchise, Nintendo will not be totally hands off with announcements regarding our heroes of Hyrule.

#2 – Hyrule Warriors 2 will be announced

Stick with me on this, after all it is wishful thinking. Hyrule Warriors was a widely welcomed addition to the Nintendo Wii U family this year. The wonderful blend of Dynasty Warriors paired with a very well thought Zelda story and character use made for a great, fun, and at times repetitive game.

I would not be the least bit surprised to see HW2 getting at the very least a logo tease as a work in progress.

Also, paired with the Amiibo, I wouldn’t be surprised to see this continued story of realities/timelines merging and see a few other Nintendo characters enter the fray. Could we finally see a game where Mario defends Hyrule and Link battles Bowser’s horde? Could be fun.

CD-i games should still probably be left out of this.

#3 – The Legend of Zelda New 3DS Title

Ah, but the 3DS just got a new Zelda game.

Well, technically, the 3DS got a cleaned up port of a fan favorite Zelda game. The last original Zelda game to be on the 3DS was A Link Between Worlds.

However, as much as I’d love to see another game akin to A Link to the Past and A Link Between Worlds and the lovely overhead nostalgia feel, I feel a brand new original story taking place after the events of Majora’s Mask would make for a wonderful new 3DS title.

Why set it after Majora’s Mask? Because the Hero of Time series seems to be an easy to understand fan favorite and there is rich storytelling to be had in that timeline. I say go for it. There’s still enough to set up what will happen in Twilight Princess.

Besides…it’s about time Vaati showed up in that era, let alone a 3D Zelda game.

#4 – “The Netflix Rumors Aren’t True” is a hoax

I’m grasping at hope and straws on this one, but I feel that Iwata might have been playing coy and didn’t want to show everyone his poker hand just yet.

zelda animated pitch

I expect some sort of new entertainment featuring our friends in the Kingdom of Hyrule to be announced.

I just feel it’ll be animated, not live action.

A Dreamworks interpretation might not be bad. (https://www.artstation.com/artist/yoshiyaki)

#5 – The Legend of Zelda NX

nx

This is very unlikely and that’s why it’s at the end of the list. I have a hard time believing that the NX will actually appear this year at E3, but I wouldn’t be surprised at a few prototype ideas or something along the lines.

I also have a harder time believing this to happen because, hey, there’s that Zelda U game that hasn’t even hit shelves yet. But maybe it could be a situation like what happened with Twilight Princess.

Then again, with the delay, it’s very likely that the game in development for Wii U will end up as a launch title for this new proposed system. Maybe they’re working on two versions of the game, one that will look great on the Wii U and the other that will look amazing on the NX. Weird? Hey, they did it to Grand Theft Auto 5.

That’s my list. What do you fans think? Too unlikely? Tell me in the comments what YOU want to see at E3 regarding Zelda! And stay tuned for the follow up article that will look at my expectations for Nintendo overall!
