When Zelda Meets Mario Maker: Five Zelda-Inspired Creations

Super Mario Maker hasn’t even been available for a week yet, but it is already seeing tons of creativity in level designs — and what better inspiration is there than a Hylian inspiration? Plenty of users are already creating Zelda-themed levels. Many are borrowing from the obvious side-scrolling candidate Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, but others are taking parts from the original Legend of Zelda, while others still are even taking portions of 3D adventures like Ocarina of Time and re-imagining them in a 2D setting. IGN took a look at 5 different Zelda-inspired levels in a featurette  that you can check out here. Common themes include traps or one-way entrances, underground or castle tilesets, the original Super Mario Bros. theme, and of course the Link amiibo costumes!

If you want to give the levels from the video a try, here are their codes in order of appearance:

  2. (Title in Japanese): 42FA-0000-000F-6909
  3. Zelda 2 Dungeon Tribute: 98B3-0000-0034-DC2A
  4. Kakariko’s Tombs: 0D6C-0000-002C-2526
  5. ZELDA: B42A-0000-000F-7E28
