Since it’s announcement, many fans have speculated if The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes would fall as a sequel to A Link Between Worlds, based on the art style.
According to Julie Gagnon from Nintendo, Tri Force Heroes falls outside of the official timeline, the same way Hyrule Warriors does.
Sometimes you have Zelda sequels and what we have today with Zelda: Triforce Heroes is completely different and not in the timeline of Zelda.
With this news, the timeline is at least safe from more speculation until Zelda Wii U comes out. The other advantage here is that with spin-off titles being successful, more Zelda related titles could be on the way if Hyrule Warriors Legends and Tri Force Heroes take off.
