Iwata confirmed, to a group of investors, that the Wii U will not be getting a release date or price until 2012. While talking to these investors, Iwata stated that Nintendo was looking to regain consumer trust before launching their next console, the Wii U. Iwata and the rest of Nintendo fear that the latest price cut to the 3DS could scare off consumers who worry that the company is going in the wrong direction.

He is quoted at stating, “Nevertheless, we have decided to cut down the price of the Nintendo 3DS as we consider it as a necessary decision now. What we will be able to do to recover the consumers’ trust before the launch of the Wii U is very important to us.”

The Nintendo Wii U is expected to launch sometime in Nintendo’s next fiscal year which starts April 1, 2012. Iwata stated that the console’s pricing and release info will not be available until around that time.

Perhaps Nintendo is just looking to see how the 3DS will fare with the recent price cut and large amount of quality games coming out.
