Who’s ready to get messy?

Splatoon, the third-person action shooter from Nintendo is coming to the Wii U in May 2015.

The game has a simple premise, get as much ink as you can for your character and claim your turf.

Today’s Nintendo Direct offered a more in-depth look into some of the other features of Splatoon, such as character customizations and a hub world that will let you interact with your online friends.

Splatoon’s squid-like characters, Inklings, will have their own weapons and outfits that will be customizable and purchased via in-game money that is earned from online multiplayer. From these customizations, you can change weapons, clothes, hats, and shoes as well as carry a main weapon and a sub weapon. These sub weapons can create diversions for your enemies, even blocking their paths. Special weapons for the game can be fully charged to inflict more damage than normal. This equipment customization will change stats, so players can focus on play style or just appearance.

The other big talking point is the central hub that was shown. This hub allows players the ability to interact with other people’s avatars, or the Inklings. Players can start online matches by visitng a tower in the hub, which will lead to winning in-game currency to assist in the previously mentioned customizations.

Our own Noah Glaser got a hands on demo at E3 2014 and had nothing but great feedback for the game. “It’s my most anticipated game of the year, and Zelda Wii U is due out this year!”

So considering the owner of the site is that pumped for this game, you should be too!

What are your thoughts of Splatoon, fans? Is this title on your radar?
