Nintendo Choosing Between Majoras Mask Remake or A Link to the Past

There has been a lot of speculation going on for a while now in regards to a Majora’s Mask remake for the 3ds and even whisperings of an A Link to the Past remake or sequel.

In a recent interview with Miyamoto, he elaborated a bit more on this decision,

“We haven’t quite decided yet, whether we’re going to do A Link to the Past, because there’s also the possibility of doing a remake of Majora’s Mask. This is something we’ve certainly been talking about and doing a little bit of experimenting with, to figure out which way we’re going to go. (Fans will have to wait) just a little while longer (to hear a decision).

We have so many goals right now. We’re always looking at expanding our audience and giving people the opportunity to get their hands on 3DS and see what kind of fun gaming experiences they can have. And now, we’re also tasked with pushing the Wii U. So we have lots of good opportunities in terms of thinking about which Zelda game is going to be best for which purpose.”

Basically both options are still on the table but the folks over at Nintendo are trying to determine which game would be better suited for the gaming market right now. In my opinion an A Link to the Past sequel would be best followed by Majora’s Mask, and then maybe just a flat out aLttP remake.

I personally would like to see ALtTP remade before it's sequel just because I'm a fan of that game more than any of the other games. In terms of how to go about the order they're released, I believe that ALtTP remake should come first for those that have never played the game. It wouldn't make sense to release a sequel and then have people ask "What the hell is this?"

In terms of MM, Nintendo can't go wrong with that one. A remake is long overdue. Lets just hope they revamp it instead of porting it over to the 3DS.

I would like a new Zelda in the STYLE of ALttP (seriously, the last Zelda we got anything like that was The Minish Cap, and even that didn't really feel quite the same), or a 3D remake of ALttP in the style of it's official art. Slapping some OoT 3D assets down on Majora's Mask and releasing a 3DS version would just be incredibly lazy of Nintendo. So they'll probably do that. Le sigh…

    I want to see Majora's Mask 3D.

Are you all serious? ALTTP ALREADY has a handheld remake! Give us Majoras Mask

It was a port, and was generally inferior to the original except for the extra dungeon. Four Swords being a bonus was good though, of course.

That is not a remake. Like Fizz stated in his response, that was a port. I think everyone here (for the most part) would love to see ALtTP redone in three dimensions.

A Link to the past was already remade for the gba. When they make it as a 3D game, they can destroy the howl game… AlttP is a 2D game and they sholdn't change that. Majoras Mask was really good. In my opinion the best zelda game. Now it shold be remade for the 3DS.

  • I would like to see an A Link to the Past sequel. Majora’s Mask is one of my favourite Zelda games but they already remade OoT for the 3Ds andI would like to see a ‘NEW’ Zelda game rather than a remake

    I think I'd prefer Majora's Mask, personally.
