Link Amiibo

Earlier this year we reported on the Ganondorf Amiibo and we were surprised how well the fans are supporting the Amiibos in general. With the success of the Amiibo, let’s take a look at the Link Amiibos and some really clever fan manipulations.

The first thing to take into consideration is there are two versions of the Link Amiibo: one reminiscent of Twilight Princess and and the other being Toon Link from The Wind Waker.

Link-Amiibo-2

The main Link Amiibo has a great action look. Defending with the Hylian shield in his right hand and The Master Sword in his left, this Link Amiibo features Link in a jumping pose. The attention to detail on the Hylian shield, the sword hilt, and even Link’s belt are impressive.

The one gripe with this Link Amiibo is the sword – it’s very flimsy. I can only wish that a better material would have been used here.

On the other side of the Amiibo world there is the Toon Link Amiibo.

Again, I have to praise the attention to detail on this Amiibo. The Master Sword in the Toon Link Amiibo’s left hand looks like it came straight from The Wind Waker and that games art style. The material on the tunic has a woven pattern to it identify a different texture compared to the other Link Amiibo.

Both of the Toon Link Amiibos do communicate with Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS & Wii U as well as Hyrule Warriors.

The Link and Toon Link Amiibo work with the following games:
Mario Kart 8: Hylian Racing Suit for Mii Racer
Hyrule Warriors: Unlocks the Spinner for Link to use as a weapon. Once the spinner is unlocked, the Amiibo can be scanned daily to unlock rupees or random items to upgrade abilities or sell.
Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy: Unlocks F-14D “Link” Plane
Mario Party 10: In-Game scratch card that rewards the player with points used to unlock various in-game rewards.
One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X: Unlocks costume for Roronoa Zoro.
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker: Grants a 1-Up Mushroom.
Amiibo Tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits: Unlocks a retro game from either NES or SNES. Scanned again, a new scene for that unlocked title will become playable.
Super Mario Maker: Mystery Mushroom that grants Mario Link’s appearance. We know this works in the original 8-bit mode. We’re unsure if that will transpose to the other variations of game play.

Since both versions of the Link Amiibo have been out for a while, fans have done a great job at customizing them and making them their own. Here are just a few of our favorites:
