The Legend of Zelda themed Monopoly set, that we previously reported on, has a release date of September 15, 2014. This board game will be available to many retailers, but GameStop is encouraging users to buy from them with an exclusive game piece .

The game will be taking a lot of elements from the Zelda series with characters, icons, and locations replacing the tokens and places for sale. Chance Cards have been renamed as an Empty Bottle. Money is of course represented as Rupees, and Houses are Deku Sprouts while Hotels are Deku Trees.

The tokens are shaped like Link’s bow, hookshot, boomerang, Triforce, Hylian Shield, and the Ocarina of Time if you buy from GameStop.

GameStop customers will also get 6 additional cards that modifies the game in a currently unknown fashion. They are cards with the designs of the Goddess Harp, Wind Waker, Minish Cap, Spirit Flute, Phantom Hourglass, and the Ocarina of Time.

Zelda Monopoly will retail for 40 dollars.

To be honest, I love the idea. I would have a reason to play monopoly again when this is released. However, I feel like the art for the board is just terrible. It looks like a monkey was handed Zelda art and instructed to make a masterpiece. However, the end result is this. And am I the only one that thinks they should have changed the “Go to jail” spot with something more Zelda themed? And seriously, why does it say collect $200 Salary…… Is Link on a fucking salary now? Is he now being paid to kick Ganon’s ass? And don’t even get me started on the free parking spot….. Hasbro could have hired a true enthusiast on the series to make sure everything was handled with the care that Zelda merchandise deserves. I love the game pieces though. That’s really the only good thing about this from what I can tell.

I agree with a lot of this. I think the main design was rather generic. With all of the zelda concepts out there they went with a standard OoT design. And things like the jail should have been gerudo themed. They got lazy in places
