Legend of Zelda Enemy Redemptions

The Legend of Zelda has always been known for its large variety of enemies. Since the original Legend of Zelda was released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, several of the more popular monsters have remained virtually unchanged. For example the Keeses and Like-Likes. Then there are enemies like the Darknuts who have evolved to become even bigger and badder.

Unfortunately, not all Zelda foes have gotten equal treatment from the developers at Nintendo. This article will discuss 5 classic Legend of Zelda enemies that need to be redeemed. Some have been weakened to the status of pointlessness and others have just been changed to a ridiculous level rendering them almost a non-threat. Whatever the case these 5 “baddies” need some attention.

#5 Wizzrobe
wizzrobe This spell casting foe made his first appearance in the original Legend of Zelda. Since then he has made several other appearances including in The Adventure of Link and The Wind Waker. Now, Wizzrobe has not really been weakened throughout the series but his overall look has gone through quite a change. In The Wind Waker, Wizzrobe was more like a Fruit Loops Toucan Sam with a robe and wand. Trust me, it is hard to be afraid of Toucan Sam and Nintendo needs to give Wizzrobe the make-over that he deserves.
#4 Goriya
goriya Where has Goriya even gone? This ugly but ever so lovable enemy has not been seen since A Link to the Past. Goriya got his start as a Boomerang throwing foe in The Legend of Zelda and repeated this performance for The Adventure of Link. Goriya even made several appearances in the notoriously good Legend of Zelda cartoons. In A Link to the Past he was weakened and made to just mimic Link’s moves. Bring Goriya back. Zelda Wii could use a Boomerang touting enemy.
#3 Octorok
octorok Octorok has been one of the most popular Legend of Zelda enemies and has made in appearance in almost every Zelda game to date. Now there are two problems with Octorok now. First of all, where was this classic foe in Twilight Princess? Nintendo threw Octorok under the train here. As one of the most recognizable enemies in the series Octorok deserves better. Lastly, what is the deal with restricting the Octoroks to the water. If you recall, Octoroks were land dwelling enemies in the original Legend of Zelda and continued to be so in several other Zelda installations. Take them out of the water and let the Octoroks thrive once more as a force to be reckoned with.
#2 Gibdo
gibdoThese evil mummies used to be some of the hardest Zelda enemies to defeat. Gibdo’s made their first appearance in the original Legend of Zelda and used to put up quite a fight. These tough mummies would wander around the dungeon chambers dealing out mass damage. Not only did they hit hard, but they also had quite the resistance to Link’s attacks. However, over time Nintendo has slowed the Gibdos down in an attempt to reach the whole “mummies are slow” stereotype. In the 3D Zelda games, Gibdos are slow moving enemies that are normally just standing there and will not actually attempt to attack Link unless he gets too close. Come on Nintendo! What’s the deal?
#1 Moblins

moblinsOk so here we are at the number one enemy redemption. The enemy that needs to be redeemed more then any other from the series. Moblins, Moblins, Moblins! Where have they gone? Moblins also appeared in the first Zelda game and they have made appearances in a good number of the Zelda installations. However, the Moblins have gradually gotten weaker and more pointless. In The Ocarina of Time, they simply stood there and would not even give chase to Link. They actually stood in one spot smashing the ground over and over again. How lame?!?

Moblins are supposed to be the result of Ganon’s followers entering the Dark World which pretty much puts them as Ganon loyalists. However Nintendo cannot give them an active role. In the Zelda cartoon Moblins were often the ones attempting to steal the Triforce of Wisdom. Also, where were the Moblins in Twilight Princess? Nowhere, as once again Nintendo left the Moblins out of the picture.

Anyways, I hope you all have enjoyed this article. We would like to invite you to sign up to our Zelda Forums to discuss this topic more.

You know those Goblin things in Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker? Yeah, I believe those were the new moblins. Although I'll agree they were toned down.

  • Triforce of the Gods

No, those were Bokoblins. TP also had Bulbins.

  • Quirk

TP didn't end up with Moblins (although one was seen in an early trailer), but they ARE in Wind Waker.

  • Saturn5

"Follow your wand!" Hahaha. I had forgotten about those Wizrobes in Wind Waker.

  • Dark Link

follow your nose wherever it goes!

I saw where a moblin was supposed to be in TP from an early screenshot. But honestly I am not sure how that was concluded to be a moblin. it looks nothing like one
