Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima recently spoke with Sankei West in a variety of topics, including the NX, Splatoon sales, mobile gaming, and more.
They start off speaking on the success of Splatoon. After Sankei mentioned its great sales, Kimishima said that painting colors as a way of battle and the characters allow it to be accepted by family audiences. He even hinted that it may be possible to extend the IP in the way of Super Mario Bros.
Kimishima stated that the hurdle of migrating the multitude of Wii fans over to the Wii U was a great challenge. He stated one of the goals for Nintendo right now is to get people to understand new ways of playing and to speed up the migration. For the 3DS, the answer was performance increase and the release of popular titles and stated there is still room for growth.
The Nintendo head also briefly spoke on the subject of mobile. He says that Nintendo wants to provide a different means of playing than that is featured on a console, like progressing through a game for a short amount of time each day,
They also touched on the upcoming rewards program, My Nintendo. Kimishima stated the goal is to collect points by playing Nintendo games, and obtaining bonuses in places such as amusement parks and movie theaters. There will be more opportunities to get in touch and interact with characters and Nintendo wants to expand more on various kinds of business.
They ended with the topic of the upcoming NX, Kimishima stated that it needs to be an attractive system and that gets consumers to jump right in. He stated that development is steadily progressing and that it will be a totally different experience than the Wii U or 3DS.
