There’s only a little under 2 months until Super Mario Maker releases worldwide and the game commonly considered the most anticipated release on Wii U of 2015. A unique twist on the familiar 2D Mario games, Maker lets you do exactly what its title implies – make your very own custom Mario levels in a variety of styles. However, new evidence has been found that the game may not have everything unlocked immediately.
Nintendo recently posted a video to their YouTube channel featuring Super Mario Maker at San Diego Comic Con 2015. At approximately 0:45 seconds into the video, a message appears at the bottom of the screen “Not all content available at the beginning of the game”. This could refer to a myriad of things – the game supports scanning an amiibo figure to transform Mario into the character scanned, for instance. It could also be pointing to the fact that the level-sharing system will expand to allow you to share more levels if your existing levels are of a higher quality. Both of these are features that are not available at the beginning of the game. It could, however, mean some of the items and editor features are unavailable or behind some kind of unlock mechanic. Nintendo hasn’t given any word on if access to the entire editor is available at launch but it seems unlikely they would gate anything to that degree.
Super Mario Maker launches on September 10th in Japan and worldwide September 11th.
