Last night at E3, Nintendo hosted the 2015 Nintendo World Championships and decided to sneak in a few surprise announcements at the same time. First up was the announcement of EarthBound: Beginnings, originally titled Mother in Japan. It’s the first game of the EarthBound/Mother trilogy and this is the first time it has been made available in the West. It is available now for the Wii U Virtual Console.

Shortly afterwards Nintendo revealed a brand new game exclusive to Nintendo 3DS called Blast Ball. Not much has been revealed about the game yet, but it will be a type of robot sports game. Similar to soccer, the object is to work with your team to blast a giant mesh ball into the opposing teams’ goal with the help of giant mechs. It will be a 4-on-4 first-person game with power-ups available on the field, mech destruction, and charged shots.

The final announcement of the night came during the finals of the Nintendo World Championship between John Numbers and Cosmo. The final game of the World Championship was the wildly anticipated – and officially named – Super Mario Maker. Originally announced as Mario Maker at last year’s E3, the game’s name was tweaked slightly and based on the gameplay from the World Championships is absolutely deserving of the Super moniker.
