Does the Split Zelda Timeline Exist

Producers of the Legend of Zelda series have long maintained that there is some kind of order to the chaos that is the Zelda Timeline. Somewhere at Nintendo’s headquarters there is a supposed document with an official chronological order for the Zelda games.

However, despite the existence of this document officials at Nintendo often make misleading and contradicting statements in regards to the timeline. For years now it has been widely accepted, and hinted at, that the Zelda series follows a split timeline. One path goes off of Young Link’s path in Ocarina of Time and another off Adult Link’s path.

Eiji Aonuma confirmed this and stated that one path leads to the events of The Wind Waker and the other to Twilight Princess. However, Aonuma is seemingly going back on this idea with his latest quote.

“All of the games are within one timeline for the entire series, but that timeline is a secret that I cannot reveal”

To some it seems that Anouma was saying that there is only one timeline and there are no splits. Others dismiss this and say that Aonuma was just saying that in general there is a timeline that each game fits into somehjow.
