Dance Dance Ocarina – Ocarina of Time Beaten Using a DDR Dancepad

Ocarina of Time is one of the most beloved games of all time, and people have been beating it in different ways for years. There’s the infamous Uber Challenge, which consists of beating the entire game while following a ludicrously hard set of rules; including ignoring all heart pieces and using the broken Giant’s Knife as early as possible. Speed runs are still getting faster and faster (at the time of this writing, the world record is 17 minutes 45 seconds), but this is a new one – Twitch user SuperScrubBrothers managed to beat the entire game using a Dance Dance Revolution Dancepad as a controller.

As you can see in the image above, Foward, Left, and Backwards were controlled by the Up, Left, and Down arrows respectively. However, he moved Right to the Circle button and let the Right arrow control his sword for ease of access. The Dancepad doesn’t have enough buttons for the C-button controls though, so an extra controller was brought in to supplement those extra four buttons. This controller was only used for the C-buttons, everything else was executed on the Dancepad.

ddr zelda fightBeating the entire game on a Dancepad is really quite an impressive feet (get it?), and the entire thing took about 10 hours. The final boss took him two attempts, and over course of the run through there were only two game over screens. You can check out the final boss fight via the Super Scrub Brothers YouTube channel, or check out the full run (broken into several parts) on their Twitch page.

Now that you’ve seen some video, what do you think? Is that an admirable level of dedication or just absolute insanity? Sound off below! I can’t say I’ve decided myself, but I’m sure the dance-loving Darunia would approve.
