Should the Zelda series be made into a movie? This question has stirred up many a debate within the gaming community. Many fans would love to see our pointy-eared hero starring in a live-action production, while others fear the movie would become another Super Mario Bros movie disaster.

For the most part, Nintendo has been opposed to bringing their franchises to the live-screen. In a recent interview with Kotaku, Aonuma stated that if Nintendo were to have any interest in a Zelda movie then they would want to have the 3DS used to add some level of interactivity.

This is something that me and Mr. Miyamoto talked about. If we were to make a Zelda title, if we had interest in doing that, I think really what would be most important to us is to be able to play with the format of a movie, make it more interactive, like you’re able to take your 3DS into the theater and that leads you into participating in it somehow. We wouldn’t want to make it the same as any other movie. We want to somehow change what a movie is.

Maybe an anime kind of like Pokémon Origins?

That may be cool. Origins looks really good

  • This sounds so much like what Miyamoto and Aonuma would come up with. They just can’t settle for a regular movie, they’d have to change the way the whole thing is viewed.
