Anything New For Zelda 2010?

Nintendo has shown very little about the upcoming Legend of Zelda game for the Nintendo Wii, due to be released in 2010, but from what we have seen so far, it seems like this may just be Twilight Princess Part 2. The limited art work suggests a lot of the same and Nintendo’s recent strategy with its other popular franchises will lead us to believe not much new is coming.

Again, we have not seen much of the newest Legend of Zelda that is in development. Put aside some concept art and vague interviews and what do we have? Nothing… The concept art though was very similar to that of Twilight Princess. It seems Nintendo is going back to the realistic style graphics and we will be seeing more of the dark themes of their previous Zelda adventure for the Wii. We  already have played Twilight Princess on the Wii and can expect the controller settings to be very similar if not the exact same; all that may be different is the use of the Wii Motion Plus, which will not affect game play in a dramatic manner.

One of the best-selling and most acclaimed Wii titles to date is Mario Galaxy.  After changing up the series for the better, Nintendo has announced a sequel which is set for 2010 as well. New levels have been demoed already and videos and screen shots have been released, and the biggest concern and statements made by reviewers is that it seems to be just more of the same. Mario Galaxy 2 is Mario Galaxy 1 with new levels. Not much is new, and there is not much to differentiate it from its predecessor.  However, with its huge success and critical acclaim, why should Nintendo mess with its successful strategy?

Twilight Princess is just like Mario Galaxy 1 in that sense. It was a huge success, has high reviews, sold millions of copies and brought a lot of hype to the series. With that in mind, where is their incentive to change up the formula? It is now up to the fanboys and gamers to decide whether this is a bad thing? Nintendo is likely to keep the same game play for Zelda 2010 and not give us anything new, but after such a great game as Twilight Princess, do we want anything new?
