Anouma on If Link Will Ever Speak

GamesMaster  recently had a discussion with Legend of Zelda series producer, Eiji Anouma. During this interview, an interesting topic  came up surrounding possibility of having Link speak in an upcoming Zelda game. Mr. Anouma seemed to be torn down the middle on the subject.

“We’ve had a lot of requests from fans to hear [Link’s] voice, and while in some ways I do feel that it could be good to have a game where he speaks, part of me also feels that that air of proud independence he has because he doesn’t speak is a precious part of the individuality of his character. I want to think long and hard about whether changing that would be for the better or not before I make any decision.”

We have always known Link as a silent protagonist, which is not unusual in video games. While obviously speaking to many NPC’s in various games, Nintendo has never actually gone the full fledged physical voice acting route with our green clad hero. If he were to be given a voice, how would you all feel about it? Should Nintendo finally go this route or do you prefer the silent Link we have always known.
